Paint records

How do I add paint?

Choose Add paint. Enter a room and surface, then add a label photo or a brand, color name or color code. Fill in the finish, product line, formula and notes you want to keep, then choose Save. Use Add another room or surface when the same paint is used in several places.

Can I keep the purchase date and painted date separately?

Yes. Purchase date is when you bought the paint; Date painted is when you used it. Enter either, both or neither in Dates. Turn off a date to clear it without changing the other.

How do I read a label?

Add a label photo and choose Read text from label. Check and correct the text before confirming it. Turn on Use this text as the formula only if you want to replace the formula field. You can also enter every detail yourself.

What if the camera is turned off?

Allow camera access for Paint by Room in iPhone Settings, or choose an existing label photo from your library.

How do I find paint at the store?

Search for a room, surface, brand, color, formula or note. Open a record and choose Show at paint counter for larger text. Open the label photo and pinch to zoom or double tap to enlarge it.

How do I keep a receipt?

In the paint editor, choose Add receipt. Photograph or choose a receipt, then optionally choose Read text from receipt. Correct its text against the photo. If one clear date is found, tap Use [date] as purchase date or enter it yourself. Choose Keep receipt, then Save the paint record. Using a suggestion can replace Purchase date; it never changes Date painted. Barcode scanning and product lookup are not included.

How will the App Clip record transfer?

The App Clip preview is being prepared. It keeps one paint record temporarily on your iPhone. After purchasing and installing the full app, open it and choose Keep this paint record. Existing records stay as they are. Receipts, the full room library, printing and backups are in the paid app. App Clip details.

Backups and printing

How do I keep a backup?

Open Home & backups from the top-left button in your paint library. Choose Save a backup and a place to keep the file. It includes paint details, label photos and receipts. Save a new copy after changes.

What happens when I restore?

Choose Restore a backup and select a .paintbyroom file. Review it before replacing current records. Restore replaces your library rather than combining two libraries. A copy of the previous saved file stays on your iPhone, available to save from Home & backups. Another restore replaces that recovery copy.

How do I print a house paint sheet?

Choose Save house paint sheet. Save the PDF, open it in Files, then choose Share and Print. Keep a complete backup too; a PDF cannot restore records in the app.

Are there storage limits?

Label and receipt images can be up to 20 MB. The complete library and imported backups can be up to 200 MB. Records are stored on your iPhone; there is no automatic household sync.

What if saved records won’t open?

The app keeps the existing file and blocks editing so it is not overwritten. Open backups and recovery to save a copy for support or restore a known-good backup. Contact us before deleting the app, because deletion removes local records.
